Endoscopic Dacrocysto-rhinostomy (DCR)
Epiphora or watering from the eye occurs when there is a blockage in the tear draining mechanism. Normally, tears formed by the lacrimal glands in the eye drain out in the nose through a complex drainage system. It collects in the lacrimal sac between the nose and the eye and drains out through a duct in the nose. Recurrent infection or anatomical problems result in blockage of this system.
Patients typically complain of watering from the eye, one sided or a swelling with occasional pus discharging from the area between the eye and the nose. The treatment is to relieve the blockage by making a surgical opening with an endoscope . Traditionally, this surgery was performed with a scar on the skin of the face. However, advancements allow this surgery to be performed endoscopically with good results.
Dr. Abhineet Lall with his robust training at the premier Seth GS Medical College and KEM Hospital followed by Fellowship for endoscopic surgery at Centres of excellence in the country and abroad ( Germany ) ensures he gives the best to his patients
He has a publication on a special technique of Endoscopic Dacrocystorhinostomy cited as follows:
