Endoscopic optic nerve decompression
Sudden loss of vision could occur due to swelling in the nerve responsible for vision ie the optic nerve. Causes of compression of the optic nerve commonly are trauma, infection with pus accumulation or other rare cause like vascular compromise.
The optic nerve lies within a bony compartment called the orbit which lodges the eyeball, muscles of the eyeball as well as fat. Increase in pressure in the orbit due to the causes above causes compression which if not relieved in the window period ie as early as possible can result into permanent loss of vision in that eye.
Since the orbit has a common wall with the nose, orbital decompression as well as optic nerve decompression can be achieved with endoscopic sinus surgery.
Dr. Abhineet Lall with his robust training at the premier Seth GS Medical College and KEM Hospital followed by Fellowship for endoscopic surgery at Centres of excellence in the country and abroad ( Germany ) ensures he gives the best to his patients.
