Stones occur in salivary glands more commonly in the submandibular than the parotid glands. These stones lodge either in the duct or the glandular tissue. Small stones in the duct can be milked out by manual compression. However, larger stones lodged in the duct require removal by surgical procedure called marsupialisation of the duct. Diagnosis and treatment can be achieved by endoscopic means called sialoendoscopy. Occasionally, large stones warrant excision of the gland.
Dr. Abhineet Lall and Dr. Mitali Dandekar are proficient in both the open as well as endoscopic techniques of surgery for sialolithiasis.
