Tympanoplasty
Tympanoplasty is a Micro-Ear surgery with an aim to achieve two objectives 1. Improve patient’s hearing and 2. Give the patient a dry ear .
Dr Abhineet uses temporalis facia graft which can be harvested from the same incision to repair the ear drum and uses various ossicular reconstruction techniques to improve the hearing .
During your first visit you will under an Otoscopic examination and an audiogram (hearing test) .Occasionally you will also be advised a HRCT temporal bone. Based on the hearing and the otoscopic finding Dr Abhineet will discuss with you the treatment and the likely hearing outcome after surgery .
At the Pranidhana Clinic we maintain an audit of our surgical patients and have given successful outcomes in more than 98% patients.
Surgery for Hearing
Tympanoplasty is a type of ear surgery performed to repair the ear drum. The ear drum perforates when it is subjected to recurrent ear infection. This can further damage the ossicles ( small bones which conduct hearing). In this scenario tympanoplasty is combined with a surgery for hearing restoration called ossiculoplasty.
Occasionally, the ear drum and hearing appartus can be damaged due to physical trauma or due to very loud sound.
The main objectives of tympanoplasy are:
- Restoration of hearing by fine, meticulous surgery for hearing
- Prevent recurrent ear discharge by robust ear surgery to repair the ear drum
